In October 2018 the Third International Congress of Lay Dominican Fraternities was held in Fatima, Portugal. The theme of this Congress: “Our Future: Justice, Peace and Care of Creation” and it was held in an atmosphere of fruitful discussions, fraternal exchange and collaboration.
From October 4 to 10, 2018 the Third International Congress of Lay Dominican Fraternities will be held in Fatima, Portugal. The deadline for registration is extended to the 31 July.
In October 2017 Lay Dominican from almost all European Provinces and Vicariates came together in Fatima for their 10th Assembly. Read the Acts here!
The 10th Assembly gathered together in Fatima has elected a new council. The members for the next four years are Maro Botica, Felix Hoffmann, Damien McDonnnell, Ludovic Namurois, Vilija Šemetienė. As European member of the International Council (from 2019) the delegates elected Gabriel Silva.
The 10th Assembly gathered together in Fatima has ended. In the chapel with a small ceremony, together with the Sisters, the Dominican Volunteers and representatives of IDYM, the European Lay Dominicans celebrated the handover to the new European Council.
On this Assembly day Sr. Yosé Höhne-Sparborth took us to the war zone of Iraq and analysed the role of Europe in the Middle East. And against this background she asked the question: ‘Preachers of hope: when, where, who and to whom?’ After Mass at the sanctuary of Fatima the Assembly elections were held for the new Council.
On the second day of the European Assembly of Lay Dominican Fraternities Fr. Timothy Radcliffe o.p. talked about how our brothers and sisters in the Arab world teach us to hope.
Saint Dominic’s European Lay Fraternities have celebrated the 800-year Jubilee of the Order with a Chain of Preachers of Hope. At the Assembly in Fatima we received the last contribution to this Chain from the Portugal, the hosting country of the Assembly.
With the church bells ringing a new day in Fatima starts. After breakfast and Lauds we go to the Assembly room, our epic centre for the next days. While we are singing the Jubilee song, we enter this room and on the ground there is a huge rosary. and we gather around it. By lighting a candle Leny Beemer, the President of the ECLDF, opens the Assembly.
