On August 8th we celebrate worldwide the feast of St. Dominic. The Council of the European Lay Dominican Fraternities is sending on this day a wish to all their sisters en brothers.
Lay Dominicans in the Czech Republic put another wonderful link into the chain of the Preachers of hope, St. Zdislava of Lemberk. In this anniversary year, the Czech Dominican province wants to focus on this Saint and ask her to intercede for Europe. The basis of a healthy European society can only be found in healthy families and children raised in love and in the correct values. With her intercession for families, mothers, fathers and children St. Zdislava, as a patron of families, may heal the many pains of an old dying Europe.
During the Jubilee Year of the Order and on the way to the next ECLDF Assembly in Fatima (Portugal) the ECLDF organizes a kind of Lay Dominican chain of European preachers of hope. The Lay Dominicans of the Slovakian Province were inspired by a letter of the Master of the Order. They organized ‘A Night Vigil’ and they share this with their brothers and sisters of the Czech Province.
As in previous years, on this year’s Whit weekend Lay Dominicans of Slovakia met in the heart of beautiful nature in Terchova to reflect on their formation. Eva Zudorova, Lay Dominican and councilmember of the ECLDF, reports.
How to give hope today? How – living in the school of St Dominic – can we help people we meet every day? Do we really need to go to the world’s end to preach the Gospel? In the ‘Chain of preachers of hope’ the Lay Dominicans of the province of Poland are telling us five stories of hope.
The new official Rosary web site for the Dominican Order sees the light of day! Fr. Louis-Marie Ariňo-Durand OP, the General Promoter of the Rosary, tells:
A chain of preachers of hope : If you need, feel free to call me any time of the day or night to pray!
Radoslava Chernukha was a remarkable woman, who meant a lot to many people in Ukraine. She worked as construction and design engineer in Aircraft company and she was a Lay Dominican. In the ‘Chain of preachers of hope’ the Lay Dominicans from the Province of Russia and Ukraine commemorate her and share her story with all their brothers and sisters in Europe.
The Dominicans celebrate this year their 800-year jubilee. After starting in Spain with Dominic de Guzman, the Order developed until it became a worldwide organisation of brethren, nuns, sisters and laypersons. What does it mean being a member of a worldwide order? What does it mean to be a world citizen? That’s the subject of my interview with Leny Beemer. She is a lay Dominican and after being president for 8 years of the Dutch Dominican Lay Fraternity, she went international. Now she is president of the European Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities.
The local Fraternity of St. Mary Magdalene and the Formation Commission of Lay Dominican Fraternities in Slovakia are pleased to invite you for a Jubilee Formation meeting. The meeting will be held from 13th to 15th May in Terchová, Slovakia.
The European Council of Lay Dominicans wishes to all their Dominican sisters and brothers: a blessed and joyful Easter.
