Caleruega2011: SOLIDARITY

To Lay Dominican Presidents of European Provinces and Vicariates and Promoters of Dominican Laity

To be passed on to the members of every local Fraternity/Chapter

Dear brothers and sisters in St Dominic,

Our Caleruega Assembly is slowly approaching and it is essential for all European Dominican provinces and vicariates to be represented at the Assembly so that together we can develop a common voice that truly represents the whole of Europe, not just a part of it.

In principle, the travel costs and registration fee of each delegate to the Assembly are covered by lay Dominican provincial/vicarial councils. However, there are provinces or vicariates for which this is not financially possible and their delegates cannot afford to cover these costs out of their personal budget, or only in a small part. This is especially the case for Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania.

Caleruega2011: FINANCIAL CONTRIBUTIONS

Ash Wednesday 9 March 2011

To Lay Dominican Presidents of European Provinces and Vicariates
and Promoters of Dominican Laity

To be passed on to the members of every local Fraternity/Chapter

Dear brothers and sisters in St Dominic,

As every year, the European Council of Lay Dominican Fraternities (ECLDF) would like to ask you to pay the financial contribution needed for its activities, most particularly for the organization of the European Assemblies that bring us together every three years. At the 7th European Assembly in Slovakia in 2008, the delegates approved a motion whereby the Assembly took on responsibility for the payment of an annual contribution from each province and vicariate, amounting to 1.50 euro per professed fraternity member. The annual European contribution, which was voluntary, has thus become compulsory.

Ten years of the Dominican community in the Netherlands: ten years of rich fruits.

On 24 October 2009 the Dominican Lay Community in The Netherlands (DLN) celebrated its tenth anniversary. Lay Dominican Jan van Hooydonk offers a personal reflection: the foundation has been laid.

One of my bookshelves still exhibits the beautiful congratulation card sent by our Dominican sisters of ‘Voorschoten’ to each of the nineteen people who, on 24 October 1999, were the first to take their profession as members of the Dominican Lay Community in The Netherlands. The card has a text from St.John’s gospel (15,16): “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit – fruit that will last”. Ten years later I can say with deep conviction: so far the journey has proved more than worth the effort, it has borne rich fruit. Rich fruit – first of all – for me personally, but also within the larger Dominican movement.

Dacia Meeting

«I really enjoyed every minute of it!» says a Norwegian participant about the Dacia meeting for lay dominicans which took place in Oslo November 6 – 9, 2009. People had travelled from Finland, Sweden – and Rome, to take part in the meeting. Saint Dominic’s preaching of grace was the main theme, but an important discussion also took place about the value of lay people’s consecration in the Order.
