The Council of the European Lay Dominican Fraternities (ECLDF) has been very busy with the Jubilee year of the Order and with the next Assembly. All the news about this you will find in the second Newsletter and it is worthwhile to read it!
During the Jubilee Year of our Order and on the way to the next ECLDF Assembly from 4–8 October 2017 in Fatima (Portugal) we organize a kind of Lay Dominican chain of European preachers of hope.
Mike Deeb o.p., representative of the Dominican Order in the United Nations, wants to ask as many members of the Dominican family as possible, to come to the big climate conference which will take place at the beginning of December 2015 in Paris. “May our preaching be benificial for the planet!”
During the weekend of 10 -12 July 2015, the second Provincial Chapter for Lay Dominican Fraternities in the Province of St. Albert the Great of Southern Germany and Austria convened for its constituent meeting in in Augsburg. A report from Gabriele Neu-Yilik and Arnaud Kientz.
The Lay Dominicans of the UK had an Assembly on 4th July 2015 in the Dominican Priory, Leicester. For the second time it was an Assembly ‘new style’: only one day with a good guest speaker and less talking about council subjects. The ECLDF was invited to be present at this Assembly. Leny Beemer- de Vos, president of the ECLDF, came for this meeting to Leicester.
When we celebrate the Jubilee of 800 years of the Order, nothing could be better than going back to the source, the original background. It was what a group of 51 members of the Portuguese Dominican Family did, between 26 and 29 June: lay Dominicans, friars, sisters and friends were on a pilgrimage to Caleruega, Saint Dominic’s birthplace.
On the occasion of the Jubilee celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Order, the Nordic Vicariate Dacia (Sweden, Norway, Finland) invites all members of the Dominican family in the nordic countries to come to Lund in Sweden from 20th to 22nd May 2016.
Last year Klaus Bornewasser, member of the International Council for Lay Dominican Fraternities (ICLDF) visited the Czech Dominican Family. He celebrated the Dominican Family Day with them in Prague.
At the beautiful monastery of the Dominican nuns of Beaufort (France-Bretagne) the ECLDF came together for the second time to continue the work to be done and to make plans for the coming time and for the ECLDF Assembly in 2017.

The Lay Dominicans in Glasgow, Scotland, were honoured by the visitation last weekend of Fr Rui Carlos Antunes e Almeida Lopes OP, General Promoter of the Laity, who travelled from Santa Sabina in Rome at the invitation of the fraternity.
